Manchester-born Yasmin Finney acted in a variety of stage productions during her youth. She duly began studying performing arts, despite her fears that career options would be limited for a transgendered woman of colour. In 2019, Finney started documenting her life and experiences via the TikTok video streaming platform, and she quickly amassed a significant social media following. Her online popularity helped her land the starring role in the 2022 Billy Porter movie Anything's Possible, but travel restrictions arising from the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to drop out. The same year, however, Finney made the short film Mars and scored her first television part as one of the leads of the coming-of-age drama Heartstopper. It was also announced that she would be joining the cast of Doctor Who for its sixetieth anniversary in 2023. Finney made her debut in The Star Beast as Rose Noble, the daughter of former companion Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate. She then returned for a cameo appearance in The Giggle, in which Fourteenth Doctor David Tennant was succeeded by Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. Finney was back for both of Gatwa's season finales: The Legend Of Ruby Sunday / Empire Of Death in 2024, and Wish World / The Reality War in 2025.
