On July 26th, 2024, the BBC finally confirmed the longstanding rumour
that there would be a forthcoming Doctor Who spin-off entitled
The War Between The Land And The Sea. Featuring the Unified
Intelligence Taskforce in a battle against the Sea Devils, it will run
five episodes, written by Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies
with Pete McTighe, who was responsible for the Thirteenth Doctor
adventures Kerblam! and Praxeus. The director is Dylan
Holmes Williams (73 Yards and Dot And Bubble), with production
running from August to December 2024.
Two Doctor Who alumni will be starring in The War Between The
Land And The Sea as new characters: Gugu Mbatha-Raw previously
played Tish Jones, sister to companion Martha Jones, in a number of 2007
episodes starting with Smith And
Jones, while Russell Tovey made a pair of appearances as
Midshipman Frame beginning with the same year's Voyage Of The Damned. They will
join several actors who are returning to familiar roles associated with
the Unified Intelligence Taskforce, including Jemma Redgrave as Kate
Stewart (a recurring character since 2012's The Power Of Three), Alexander
Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim (who first appeared in 2023's The Giggle) and Ruth Madeley as
scientific adviser Shirley-Anne Bingham (introduced in 2023's The Star Beast). In addition, Colin
McFarlane is back as United States Army General Pierce from Children Of Earth, the 2009
season of spin-off series Torchwood.
