Born: 13th September 1969 (as Ahsen Rafiq Bhatti)
Episodes Broadcast: 2008-2011
Ahsen Bhatti was born in Nottingham. He became interested in acting
during his youth, and he made his first television appearance in a 1984
episode of Dramarama, aged fourteen years. Bhatti subsequently
attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and his first
professional credit came on Family Pride in 1991. He soon won a
starring role in the medical drama Cardiac Arrest, while also
appearing in programmes like Band Of Gold, Holding On and
Grafters. Bhatti was prolific after the turn of the century,
scoring significant parts on NSC Manhunt, Grease Monkeys
and New Street Law; he also had a recurring role on Coronation
Street. Occasional movie appearances included 2002's Bend It Like
Beckham. More and more, he was now choosing to be credited as
“Ace Bhatti”, opting for a childhood nickname in response to
the frequently garbled pronunciations of his real first name.
In 2008, Bhatti joined the cast of the Doctor Who spin-off The
Sarah Jane Adventures. He played Haresh Chandra, father to Anjli
Mohindra's Rani, and principal of the school attended by his daughter
and her friends. Bhatti made his first appearance in The Day Of The Clown, and he
remained on the show until its end in 2011 following the death of series
star Elisabeth Sladen. In the meantime, he also became a regular on
EastEnders for fourteen months. Bhatti's subsequent credits in
the 2010s included The Shadow Line, Beowulf, DCI
Banks and Line Of Duty, plus movies like Free Dance
and the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. During the
Twenties, he co-starred in Alex Rider, and he could also be seen
in the likes of Baptiste and The Good Karma Hospital.
