Biography

American actress Alexa Havins was born in Artesia, New Mexico. She demonstrated a proficiency for dance at the tender age of three years, and she was performing professionally by the time she was five. At the encouragement of an acting coach, Havins attended New York City's Circle in the Square Theatre School. She quickly won a role on the soap opera All My Children in 2003; she remained on the programme until 2007, during which time she also enjoyed a stint on the sister show One Life To Live. Havins went on to star in Turbo Dates, and she appeared in episodes of programmes like Rescue Me and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Amongst her early movie credits were Brooklyn Rules with Freddie Prinze Jr, the Katherine Heigl romantic comedy 27 Dresses, and Old Dogs starring Robin Williams and John Travolta. In 2005, Havins married her All My Children castmate, Justin Bruening, with whom she would have two daughters and a son.

Havins briefly returned to All My Children in 2011, the same year that she joined the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood for its fourth season, which was made as a co-production between the BBC and the American network Starz. She portrayed Esther Drummond, an analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency who became caught up in the events surrounding the so-called Miracle Day. Havins' other television roles during the 2010s came on shows like Grey's Anatomy, Constantine, The Astronaut Wives Club and Barry. Occasional movies included When In Rome with Kristen Bell, the thriller Proxy, and the comic book docudrama Professor Marston And The Wonder Women.
