Angela Wynter
Born: 14th July 1957
Episodes Broadcast: 2023-2024
Angela Wynter was born in Kingston, Jamaica but immigrated to Peckham,
London in 1965. Intent on becoming an actress, she decided that drama
school was not for her, and instead she became heavily involved in
theatrical companies which championed the works of people of colour.
Wynter made her stage debut in 1982, the same year that her first movie,
Burning An Illusion, was released. Television parts quickly
followed, such as a recurring role in the sitcom No Problem! and
guest appearances in Minder and Mitch. Wynter also
established a singing career, initially as an original member of View
From The Hill in 1985, and subsequently with Abacush. Meanwhile, she
continued to amass television credits throughout the Nineties, amongst
them The Bill, What You Lookin' At?, Murder Most
Horrid and Cracker.
In 2003, Wynter joined the cast of EastEnders, and wound up
staying for five years. Subsequent television work included episodes of
Holby City, Casualty, Death In Paradise and
Vera, plus recurring appearances in The Tunnel and
Cleaning Up. During the Twenties, Wynter had a run in
Doctors -- a programme for which she had previously appeared in
several different roles -- as well as multiple installments of shows
like Vampire Academy and Call The Midwife. In 2023, she
returned to EastEnders on an ongoing basis. The same year, Wynter
made her Doctor Who debut as Cherry Sunday, grandmother to the
Fifteenth Doctor's companion Ruby, in The Church On Ruby Road; she
also narrated the audiobook version of its novelisation.
