Azhur Saleem
Episodes Broadcast: 2021
Born in Manchester during the early Eighties, Azhur Saleem enjoyed
drawing cartoons as a child, which provoked an interest in animation.
When his youthful attempts to turn his illustrations into movies proved
unsuccessful, he began to experiment with live-action material; these
efforts ultimately inspired his decision to attend the London Film
School. After graduating, Saleem directed various promotional items --
including the electronic press kit for the 2009 sci-fi comedy
Frequent Asked Questions About Time Travel -- and a number of
short films. In 2020, he was a director's assistant and a second unit
director on Baghdad Central, working under Alice Troughton, who
had handled episodes of Doctor Who and its spin-off series.
Saleem was approached about directing for the same year's Doctor
Who season. His first assignment as a fully-fledged television
director would ultimately become three installments of 2021's Flux, a six-part epic for Jodie
Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor.
