Bradley Walsh
Born: 4th June 1960 (as Bradley John Walsh)
Born in Watford, Hertfordshire, Bradley Walsh initially planned to make football his vocation. He won a roster spot with Brentford in 1979, although he was generally relegated to the reserves. After playing for several different teams, Walsh's professional career came to an end in 1982 following an ankle injury. The same year, he had a daughter named Hayley. Walsh then worked a series of odd jobs while establishing himself as a comedian. His success led to television appearances, including Celebrity Squares and Noel's House Party, and he hosted game shows like Midas Touch and Wheel Of Fortune starting in 1995. In 1997, Walsh married dancer Donna Derby; their son, Barney, was born the following year. Walsh's first dramatic role came in 2000 on Lock, Stock..., a spin-off from the 1998 film Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. A rare movie appearance came in 2001's Mike Bassett: England Manager. Walsh won a regular part in Night And Day, after which he joined the cast of Coronation Street in 2004, and remained on the soap opera for the next two and a half years. His first brush with Doctor Who came in 2008, when he played the villainous Elijah Spellman -- also known as the Pied Piper -- in Day Of The Clown, an installment of the spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures. The next year, Walsh began a lengthy association with the quiz show The Chase. He also joined the cast of Law & Order: UK under executive producer Chris Chibnall.
Deciding to leave Law & Order: UK after eight seasons, Walsh developed a new game show called Cash Trapped, which he hosted. He also released his first album, a collection of standards entitled Chasing Dreams; a follow-up called When You're Smiling was issued the next year. Walsh was then reunited with Chibnall, who had become the new showrunner of Doctor Who. As Graham O'Brien, Walsh was the programme's first regular middle-aged TARDIS traveller; he accompanied Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor from her debut in 2018's The Woman Who Fell To Earth until the 2021 New Year's Day special, Revolution Of The Daleks. Walsh left Doctor Who alongside Tosin Cole, who played Graham's grandchild, Ryan Sinclair. During his time on Doctor Who, Walsh and his son began appearing in the travelogue Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad. In 2021, he was both the star and executive producer of The Larkins, which also counted the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, amongst its cast. Walsh returned to Doctor Who for Whittaker and Chibnall's swansong, The Power Of The Doctor, in 2022. |
