Chanya Button
Born: 25th December 1986 (as Chanya Joyce Dorothy Button)
Born in London, Chanya Button was the daughter of Roy Button, the
managing director for the Warner Brothers movie studio in the United
Kingdom. As a result, she grew up around film productions, and developed
a passion for directing. While studying English literature and drama at
Oxford University, Button worked as an assistant director at
high-profile London theatres like Shakespeare's Globe. After graduating
in 2008, she worked for Warners Brothers in both Britain and Hollywood,
serving as a runner or assistant director on various movies, including
the latter installments of the Harry Potter series. Button earned
a Master's degree from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2010, with a
focus on directing for the stage. She made a number of short movies, and
then made her debut as a feature film director with 2015's Burn Burn
Burn, which she also produced. The biopic Vita & Virginia
followed in 2018. The next year, Button began directing for television,
amassing credits on World On Fire, The Spanish Princess
and Whitstable Pearl. She also directed the 2023 Doctor
Who adventure The Giggle,
in which Ncuti Gatwa debuted as the Fifteenth Doctor.
