Daniel Anthony
Born: 4th October 1987
Episodes Broadcast: 2007-2011
Born in Birmingham, West Midlands, Daniel Anthony's shyness as a child
prompted his mother to enroll him in drama school. Soon demonstrating an
aptitude for acting, he was signed to a talent agency and began
appearing in West End musicals during the mid-Nineties. Anthony's first
television role came in a 2001 installment of Casualty, after
which he appeared in multiple episodes of EastEnders,
Doctors and As The Bell Rings. In 2007, he joined the cast
of the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures as
class clown Clyde Langer. Although he did not appear in the inaugural
New Year's Day special, Invasion Of
The Bane, Clyde was introduced the following autumn in the
first-season premiere, Revenge
Of The Slitheen.
Anthony remained with The Sarah Jane Adventures through its
conclusion in 2011, following the untimely death of series star
Elisabeth Sladen. During his tenure on the show, he also had a role on
the animated series Guess With Jess, and he deepened his
connection with Doctor Who by appearing for Big Finish
Productions in their 2009 Eighth Doctor audio drama Wirrn Dawn.
Anthony went on to rejoin Casualty for a year as a series
regular, and he also had a recurring role on the sitcom Meet The
Adebanjos. In 2016, former Doctor Who companion Noel Clarke
cast him in the movie sequel Brotherhood. Anthony became involved
with another Doctor Who spin-off in 2018, when he could be heard
in the Torchwood audio play The Law Machines for Big
Finish.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Anthony reprised Clyde for
Farewell, Sarah Jane, a coda to The Sarah Jane Adventures
which was released online to commemorate the ninth anniversary of
Sladen's passing. 2023 saw him return to the character in a more
substantial way for Rani Takes On The World, a new audio range
from Big Finish which reunited Clyde with Rani Chandra, as played by
Anjli Mohindra. The same year, Anthony appeared as Clyde in an episode
of Tales Of The TARDIS on BBC iPlayer, which featured an abridged
version of The Three Doctors.
