Daniel McCulloch got his start in the television industry as a receptionist. He later formed a writing partnership with Paul Tomalin which resulted in They Keep Killing Suzie, a 2006 adventure for the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood. Soon thereafter, McCulloch began working as a producer, initially on the 2009 horror movie Tony, and later the television series Moonfleet and Indian Summers. He was both a producer and an executive producer on Endeavour, and he also held the latter role on Victoria. McCulloch then joined Bad Wolf Productions, run by former Doctor Who executives Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, for whom he was the showrunner of the Philip Pullman adaptation His Dark Materials. He subsequently became Bad Wolf's Director of Content.
