Biography

Geoffrey Orme was born in Ilford, Essex. He started writing for the theatre, often in musical comedy, and moved into film in the mid-Thirties. Amongst many other titles, Orme contributed to several installments in the Old Mother Riley series of comedies. Orme served in the Royal Air Force during World War Two, but then resumed his movie career. He often worked with producer/director John Baxter, such as on 1946's Here Comes The Sun and 1952's Judgment Deferred. In the late Fifties, Orme began to write for television, initially scripting several episodes of Ivanhoe. Work in the Sixties included The Avengers and No Hiding Place, before Orme began developing a storyline entitled “The Evil Eye” for Doctor Who. Although this was ultimately rejected in April 1966, it led to Orme writing The Underwater Menace, which was broadcast the following year. However, this was Orme's final television script, and his final movie contribution was additional material to the adventure film The Long Duel, starring Yul Brynner. Orme thereafter concentrated on a series of biographical audio programmes. He died on January 21st, 1978.
