Although he became a paramedic after finishing his schooling, Glen McCoy
had been interested in writing from an early age, and his job
experiences inspired a 1982 book called Ambulance!. McCoy also
aspired to break into television, and he approached the BBC about
turning his book into a series. Although this did not come to pass, he
did secure a commission for two 1983 episodes of he medical drama
Angels. After watching Doctor Who with his
three-year-old son, McCoy decided to pitch a storyline to the production
office. The result became 1985's Timelash, which featured Colin
Baker as the Sixth Doctor. He also novelised the serial for Target
Books.
McCoy wrote sporadically for television over the next decade and a half,
including episodes of EastEnders, Eldorado and
Emmerdale Farm. However, his primary emphasis became corporate
culture and coaching for business professionals. McCoy wrote several
books on related subjects, such as 2011's Guerrilla Coaching. He
also founded companies including Glen McCoy Consulting. McCoy returned
to Doctor Who with a Third Doctor short story entitled Dream
Devils, which appeared in the 2006 anthology Short Trips: The
Centenarian from Big Finish Productions.
