Biography

Jamie Donoughue originally aspired to be a professional judoka. He began recording judo competitions while he was still a teenager, and these experiences inspired an interest in filmmaking. Donoughue pursued an undergraduate degree in television and film, during which he began working as a camera operator and a director for a local television station. After graduating, he formed a production company which focussed on music videos. However, Donoughue soon yearned to move into drama, which led him to write, direct and produce several short films. One of these projects was 2015's Shok, which was lavished with critical praise and earned an Academy Award nomination as Best Short Film, Live Action. Donoughue was soon in demand for television projects, including episodes of The Last Kingdom, The Innocents and Endeavour. During the Twenties, he earned both directing and producing credits on A Discovery Of Witches and A Town Called Malice. Donoughue was also recruited to direct Children In Need (2023), a mini-episode featuring the Fourteenth Doctor, and the following year's season finale The Legend Of Ruby Sunday / Empire Of Death, starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.
