Jim Gray
Episodes Broadcast: 2011
Jim Gray attended the University of Denver before he relocated to Los
Angeles to seek work as a scriptwriter. After a spell toiling as a
waiter, a family friend provided him with the opportunity to serve as a
production assistant on a reality show. The experience was not positive,
and Gray considered leaving Hollywood to join the Marines. However, he
then took a job as a production assistant on the crime procedural
Crossing Jordan. This time, Gray enjoyed greater success; having
started on the series in 2004, he was eventually able to write a script,
which was broadcast in 2007. He moved on to shows like Pushing
Daisies and In Plain Sight, for which he was also a story
editor. Gray collaborated with John Shiban on the script for Escape To LA, an episode of
the Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood in 2011, when it was
being made as a co-production between the BBC and the Starz network in
the United States. His subsequent projects included Hannibal and
Orange Is The New Black, on which he earned both writing and
producing credits, as well as American Gods.
