Merseyside native John Fay made his start as a playwright, including an
association with the Kirkby Response Theatre during the Nineties. Having
long aspired to work in television, he finally earned a place on the
writing staff for the soap opera Brookside around the turn of
the century. Fay later moved on to programmes like Clocking Off,
Blue Murder and Coronation Street, on which he became the
lead writer; he also developed the thriller Mobile. In 2009, he
contributed two installments to the acclaimed five-part epic Children Of Earth for the
Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood. Fay returned to
Torchwood for its final season, writing 2011's penultimate
episode, The Gathering. His
credits during the 2010s included Moving On, for which he had the
opportunity to direct one of his scripts. Fay also co-created the
historical drama The Mill and wrote for Medici.
