Joseph Millson

Episodes Broadcast: 2007-2008
Joseph Millson was born in Berkshire, and trained at the Rose Bruford
College of Speech and Drama. After tackling a number of plays, he made
his television debut in a 1998 episode of In Exile. The following
year, Millson won a regular role in the medical drama Peak
Practice. He also married actress Caroline Fitzgerald, with whom he
would have a daughter, Jessica, and a son, Gabriel. After the turn of
the century, Millson continued to appear regularly on the stage,
including in the West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. On
television, he could be seen in shows like EastEnders and Talk
To Me; amongst his occasional movie roles was the James Bond film
Casino Royale. In 2007, Millson joined the cast of the Doctor
Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures playing Alan, father
to Yasmin Paige's intrepid Maria Jackson. However, when Paige opted to
leave the show to concentrate on her education, Alan was also written
out. As a result, Millson's last appearance came in 2008's The Mark Of The
Berserker.
Millson would subsequently take regular or recurring roles in programmes
such as Campus, Holby City, 24: Live Another Day
and The Last Kingdom. A diverse array of movie credits included
romantic comedy I Give It A Year, thriller All The Devil's
Men, and action sequel Angel Has Fallen, while 2013's Dead
Of The Nite saw him not only act but also serve as an executive
producer. With Millson and his wife having divorced in 2011, he married
his Holby City co-star Sarah-Jane Potts in 2013. During the
Twenties, he exercised new creative muscles. Millson's memoir,
Work... And Other Four Letter Words: Everything You've Never Heard
About Becoming An Actor, was published by Urwin Press in 2021. He
wrote, produced and starred in the short film Care, and he was
both a writer and actor for the mini-series Colosseum. Millson
could also be seen in shows like Endeavour and Moon
Knight, plus the biopic Creation Stories. He renewed his
association with the worlds of Doctor Who by playing various
characters in audio dramas from Big Finish Productions, starting with
2021's Dalek Universe 3, which featured the Tenth Doctor.
