Juliet Cowan
Born: 21st May 1974
Episodes Broadcast: 2007-2008
Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Juliet Cowan's first television
appearance came in a 1992 episode of The Bill. The following
year, she could be seen in the live broadcast of Iron Maiden's
Raising Hell concert, playing the girlfriend of stage magician
Simon Drake. Cowan had a recurring role in This Life during 1997,
as well as parts in shows like The Passion, Touching Evil
and Real Women. She also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival. After the turn of the century, Cowan returned to The
Bill for several episodes, and she also made regular appearances in
such programmes as Family Affairs, The Queen's Nose and
Pulling, plus the animated series Bounty Hamster.
2007 saw Cowan take a rare movie role -- in the comedy Magicians
-- and appear in the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane
Adventures. Introduced in the New Year's Day special Invasion Of The Bane, she
portrayed Chrissie, the seemingly self-centred mother to Sarah Jane's
young friend Maria Jackson, as played by Yasmin Paige. The character was
just beginning to reveal her true depths when Paige's decision to leave
The Sarah Jane Adventures prompted Cowan's departure as well; she
exited in the 2008 premiere The
Last Sontaran. Amongst her subsequent credits were Back To
Life, The Revolting World Of Stanley Brown, Hank
Zipzer and Back To Life. During the Twenties, Cowan could be
seen in the likes of Am I Being Unreasonable?, Stuck and
The Power. She also wrote a play entitled MUM, based on
her mother's experiences with dementia.
