Justin Molotnikov
Born: 1969
Episodes Broadcast: 2015
Scottish-born Justin Molotnikov began his career by writing and
directing the 1998 short film Pan Fried. He soon moved into
television; My Parents Are Aliens and High Times were
amongst his early credits as a director, while occasional scripts
included episodes of River City. In 2004, Molotnikov co-created
the children's series Shoebox Zoo, for which he would direct the
entire thirteen-part first season. His critically-acclaimed debut film
was 2009's Crying With Laughter, which he both wrote and
directed. In the 2010s, Molotnikov worked steadily on BBC Wales
programmes like Merlin and Atlantis, which typically
occupied the Doctor Who timeslot during the gaps between its
seasons. As such, it was perhaps inevitable that he would eventually be
recruited to direct episodes of Doctor Who itself. Molotnikov
made two 2015 adventures for Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor, with Face The Raven and Sleep No More ultimately
transposed in the broadcast order. His subsequent work included
episodes of Lucky Man, Poldark and Outlander.
