Kevin Clarke
Episodes Broadcast: 1988
Kevin Clarke was raised in Birkenhead, Merseyside and left school to
work as a guitarist. He subsequently attended the University of Leeds,
where his drama studies led to a teaching post at a comprehensive
school. Keen to write full-time, Clarke became a reader for a succession
of theatres, and had his first plays produced in the mid-Eighties. This
resulted in an invitation to the BBC Television Writers Course which, in
turn, helped him secure commissions for Wish Me Luck and The
Bill. BBC script editor Caroline Oulton encouraged Clarke to
approach the Doctor Who production office, and he wound up
writing Silver Nemesis, a
Cyberman adventure for Sylvester McCoy's Seventh Doctor which celebrated
the programme's twenty-fifth anniversary in 1988. He later novelised his
scripts for Target Books.
Clarke subsequently spent several years as the lead writer on The
Bill. Other Nineties television included Minder,
Ellington and Wycliffe. Following the turn of the century,
Clarke wrote episodes of The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, The
Last Detective and Casualty. He completed an undergraduate
degree in history via the Open University, and later earned Masters
degrees from both Oxford University and the University of London.
