Born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, Mandip Gill demonstrated a love of acting
from an early age, and she ultimately studied performing arts at Park
Lane College. She then attended the University of Central Lancashire,
from which she graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours)
degree in Acting. Gill spent several years on the stage before she was
cast in Hollyoaks, on which she remained for three and a half
years. Subsequent credits included episodes of Doctors, The
Good Karma Hospital and Love, Lies And Records. In 2018, Gill
debuted as Yasmin Khan in the Doctor Who season premiere, The Woman Who Fell To Earth. It
was also Jodie Whittaker's initial adventure as the Thirteenth Doctor,
and Yaz would make history as the first companion to effectively
accompany a Doctor for the entire period between regenerations. The two
actresses left together in 2022's The
Power Of The Doctor.
While she was co-starring in Doctor Who, Gill made her feature
film debut in 2019's The Flood. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she
appeared in the interactive movie Five Dates. Gill's first
television project after exiting Doctor Who was the thriller
Suspicion. She also made her West End debut in 2022, co-starring
in 2:22 A Ghost Story at the Criterion Theatre.
