Nida Manzoor
Episodes Broadcast: 2020
Nida Manzoor lived in Singapore for the first decade of her life, before
her family moved to London. Her parents instilled a love of music in
their children but, although Manzoor believed at a young age that it
would become her trade, she ultimately attended University College
London and graduated with a degree in politics in 2011. She had intended
to parlay her education into a career in law, but her involvement with
the university's film society had inspired a passion for writing and
directing. As such, Manzoor instead found a job as a production runner,
and she soon secured the funding to make several short films during 2013
and 2014. She worked as a director's assistant, and she also contributed
scripts to the children's series Jamillah And Aladdin and
Dixi.
Manzoor's first assignment as a television director came on several
episodes of the sitcom Enterprice in 2017 and 2018, followed by a
pilot called Hounslow Diaries. She then made two 2020 Doctor
Who episodes featuring Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor: the
historical adventure Nikola Tesla's
Night Of Terror and Fugitive
Of The Judoon, which introduced Jo Martin as the “Fugitive
Doctor”. Her family's passion for music inspired Manzoor to
develop We Are Lady Parts, for which she was both the writer and
director, and which was broadcast to critical acclaim during 2021. She
also took writing and directing credits on her debut movie, 2023's
Polite Society.
