Paula Woolsey
Episodes Broadcast: 1985
Paula Woolsey was a writer and teacher, whose studies of
seventeenth-century London architecture helped inspire ex-boyfriend
Eric Saward's 1982 Doctor Who serial The Visitation. Having become
Doctor Who's script editor, Saward commissioned Woolsey to write
the 1985 adventure Attack Of The
Cybermen, featuring Colin Baker as the Sixth Doctor. Accounts
vary as to whether Woolsey took an active hand in its development, or
was merely a figurehead to deceive producer John Nathan-Turner about the
fact that Saward and continuity adviser Ian Levine were really
responsible for the narrative. The pseudonym “Paula Moore”
was applied to the serial as broadcast. Woolsey later submitted two
further story ideas for Doctor Who, but neither was pursued. Attack Of The Cybermen would remain
her only broadcast television script.
