Phil Gladwin
Born: 9th April 1963 (as Philip Gladwin)
Episodes Broadcast: 2007
Phil Gladwin was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire. In his early twenties,
he wrote a short story which performed well in a national competition.
The experience encouraged Gladwin to pursue a career as an author, but
he struggled to establish himself. In the mid-Nineties, he was able to
secure a job as a script editor on programmes like Casualty and
The Bill. It was on the latter that Gladwin was able to make the
jump to scriptwriting around the turn of the century; he also wrote for
Grange Hill at about the same time. He would go on to contribute
to programmes such as Crossroads and Trial & Retribution.
He also collaborated on an ultimately-unmade project with Matthew Bouch;
when Bouch became the producer of the Doctor Who spin-off The
Sarah Jane Adventures, he invited Gladwin to contribute ideas. The
result was 2007's Warriors Of
Kudlak. Gladwin subsequently returned to script editing, working
on New Tricks and The Dumping Ground. He also developed
resources to help new writers break into the industry.
