Shaun Dingwall was born in Waltham Forest, Essex. A plan to attend
university stymied by poor grades, Dingwall decided to try his hand at
acting. He soon won a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama,
where future Doctor Who star Catherine Tate was one of his
classmates. After making his television debut in 1993 with an episode of
The Bill, Dingwall could be seen in shows like Minder
before winning prominent roles in Soldier Soldier, The Phoenix
And The Carpet and Touching Evil. After the turn of the
century, his credits included In A Land Of Plenty, Messiah 2:
Vengeance Is Mine and Charles II: The Power & The
Passion.
Dingwall then appeared in Doctor Who, playing companion Rose
Tyler's ill-fated father, Pete, in 2005's Father's Day with Christopher
Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor. He returned to the series in 2006 as a
version of the character from an alternate reality, meeting David
Tennant's Tenth Doctor and finally saving Rose's life at the climax of
Doomsday. Towards the end of
the decade, Dingwall had parts in programmes such as Spooks,
Survivors and Moses Jones. He could also be seen on the
silver screen in the likes of Hush and The Young
Victoria.
During the 2010s, Dingwall had recurring roles in shows including
Rock & Chips, DCI Banks, Maigret and Top
Boy. He also appeared in the 2017 movie Goodbye Christopher
Robin with Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie. Dingwall's career
continued into the Twenties with Noughts + Crosses.
