Yasmin Paige
Born: 24th June 1991
Episodes Broadcast: 2007-2008
Yasmin Paige was born in London, and started acting while she was still
a child. She made her professional debut in 2003, with the movie
Wondrous Oblivion starring Delroy Lindo, and a run in the West
End as Cosette in Les Misérables. Television roles the same
year came in the telefilm Second Nature and an episode of Keen
Eddie. Paige soon won a starring role in The Mysti Show and
appeared in programmes such as The Last Detective and
Doctors. Additional movies included the ensemble comedy-drama
I Could Never Be Your Woman.
Paige was then cast as Maria Jackson, one of the central characters of
the Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures. After
making her debut in a New Year's Day 2007 special, Invasion Of The Bane, she
starred in the programme's first season that autumn. However, it then
became clear that production on the 2008 episodes would clash with
Paige's GCSEs, and the actress made the decision to leave The Sarah
Jane Adventures. Maria's farewell came in the second-season
premiere, The Last
Sontaran, although she could be heard in the next serial, The Day Of The Clown, and
then made a surprise return in The
Mark Of The Berserker.
Paige resumed her acting career once her GCSEs were behind her, while
she also embarked upon a degree in English literature. Her role in
Richard Ayoade's 2010 movie Submarine was critically lauded; she
subsequently appeared in his next film, The Double. On
television, Paige had prominent roles in Murderland and
Pramface, plus episodes of The Good Karma Hospital. In
Glue, she was reteamed with her The Sarah Jane Adventures
castmate, Tommy Knight. During 2018, Paige narrated Jacqueline Rayner's
short story Sarah Jane and The Temple Of Eyes for the 2018 audio
version of the Penguin Books anthology The Day She Saved The Doctor:
Four Stories From The TARDIS. During the Twenties, she was paired
with Ayoade -- on screen, this time -- in the movie sequel The
Souvenir: Part II.
