"Two words," says Peri, casting her vote for Ben. "Reverse-alphabet strategy. Er, um, is that three words? You know with the hyphen? I'm confused."
"I don't trust the Monk one bit," mutters Susan. "And he keeps making fun of the number of times I've twisted my ankle since we got here. Come on, three hundred and thirty-seven times in a month isn't that often!"
"'P'," intones Ben, "is for Peri."
When all the ballots are cast, Jeff announces "I'll go tally the votes." He leaves and returns momentarily with the ornate cask into which they all deposited their choices.
"First vote... Peri.
"Second vote... Monk."
"Third vote... Ben.
"Fourth vote... Monk. That's two votes for the Monk, and one each for Ben and Peri.
"Fifth vote... Ben. "Sixth vote... Ben.
"Seventh vote... Ben. Ben, bring me your torch."
Jeff snuffs out Ben's torch. "The tribe has spoken. It's time to go."
"Anyone else wanna use my reverse-alphabet voting strategy?" offers Ben, as Jeff kicks him onto the transmat platform.
"I did gain fifteen friends. Well maybe twelve or thirteen. Okay, okay five or six. Right, there was just that fling with Peri, and that one night with the Monk I never, ever want to talk about again. But nobody remaining can say that kind of thing, and when it comes down to it that's pretty priceless.
"Oh God, this means I've gotta go face Polly now, doesn't it?"
