Eve Myles was born in Ystradgynlais, Wales. While completing a Bachelor
of Arts in acting at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, she made
her television debut in 1999 with Looking For Lucy and an episode
of Hang The DJ. Following her graduation in 2000, Myles became a
regular castmember on Belonging, and remained with the programme
through its conclusion in 2009. Other early television credits included
Tales From Pleasure Beach and Colditz. In 2003, Myles
joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for a season. The following year,
she gave up another stage role to appear in the revived Doctor
Who for director Euros Lyn, with whom she had worked on
Belonging. Myles played the ill-fated Gwyneth in The Unquiet Dead, with
Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor. It was broadcast in 2005, the
same year that she made her first movie, These Foolish
Things.
Having impressed Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies,
Myles was soon offered the lead role of Gwen Cooper in the spin-off
series Torchwood. Initially positioned as an everywoman character
who stumbled upon the activities of the secret organisation, Gwen
remained with the programme through its fourth and final season in 2011.
In 2008, Myles appeared as Gwen in both the Doctor Who epic The Stolen Earth /
Journey's End, and the Torchwood audio drama Lost
Souls, which was broadcast on BBC Radio 4 to coincide with the
activation of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. Other roles came in
Merlin and Little Dorrit. Having long been in a
relationship with actor Bradley Freegard, Myles gave birth to their
first daughter, Matilda, in 2009. She and Freegard married in 2013, and
second daughter Siena arrived the following year.
During the 2010s, Myles could be seen in shows like You, Me &
Them, Broadchurch, Victoria and Davies' A Very
English Scandal, and she starred in the mystery series Keeping
Faith. She reprised the role of Gwen Cooper for the range of
Torchwood audio dramas from Big Finish Productions, beginning
with Forgotten Lives in 2015. In 2019, Myles co-founded Empty
Room Productions. Her career continued into the Twenties, when she
became one of the leads of the crime drama We Hunt Together.
